Support to the Member States to establish national systems, local collection points, and digital infrastructure for monitoring Covid 19 and its variants in waste waters
Project description
This project is meant to implement a national wastewater monitoring
system that will collect data on SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, taking into
account an appropriate methodology for the determination of SARS-CoV-2
and its variants in wastewater. The project will be developed and
harmonised in accordance with other metodologies implemented by the
EU countries. The main steps for the analysis of SARS-CoV-2 are:
sampling, extraction, amplification and detection of RNA, viral particle
sequencing and analysis of data obtained.
Our Laboratory
Objectives
1. Development of a molecular biology laboratory which will be
equipped with research infrastructure for RNA sampling, extraction,
amplification and detection (e.g. dPCR, sequencing equipment,
auxiliary materials), viral particle sequencing and analysis of data
obtained for SARS-CoV-2 and its variants detected in wastewater
2. Development of a digital platform to ensure interoperability with the
future EU-wide digital currency exchange platform
3. Weekly analyisis of samples which will be obtained from 7 distinct
locations (6 from sewage sampling points and 1 from wastewater
treatment plants) located in Bucharest
